"Dedicated to increasing awareness of Celiac Disease in the Lancaster Area by connecting with the community and providing informational and social events that educate ourselves and the world around us."

Check it out: Haute Chocolate Cafe

We recently celebrated a special birthday (my mom’s) and wanted to enjoy a great Birthday cake. We gave Haute Chocolate Cafe in Lancaster a try (they also have a location in Reading).  If you have not been to Haute Chocolate yet, we highly suggest you give it a try. We ordered a red velvet cake with a white icing. The owner of the company even called their chocholate supplier in Belgium to check the ingredients.  As with all things Gluten-Free the price was more than a trip to the local Giant bakery department, but it was worth every cent.  If you happen to visit them in either Lancaster or Reading, tell them you heard about them hear.

The Future of Lancaster Area Celiacs...

Your local celiac support group is on the brink of extinction. Some dedicated volunteers have stepped forward to help, but we still need you to volunteer so that the services of this group can continue. A couple of meetings have been held to reorganize the group and much progress has been made, but some critical positions are still open. With your help this group can move forward and once again flourish.

We've split up the responsibilities so it will not be too much for any one person to handle and others will be there to help the whole way through the process. As we all know, living celiac disease can be tough at times, especially when you are newly diagnosed and still trying to figure out what to eat that will not make you sick. Experienced celiacs sometimes also need help to stay on track and we all need to be educated with the latest information and research.  To achieve these goals and to have educational, enjoyable (and tasty) meetings, these are the positions where we still need help:

Communications Chair:  This volunteer will send out e-mails including "Updates" about various celiac related issues, the LAC Quarterly Newsletter, and meeting/event information. This person will also coordinate with other volunteers who take care of the website, write the updates and newsletter, maintain the member's list and work on group publicity.  This is a critical position, please consider stepping forward to help!

LAC Updates Writer:  This volunteer will gather information about celiac news, events, gluten free products and restaurants and compose an e-mail to be distributed to the group on a bi-weekly to monthly basis. He or she will be provided with multiple sources to get this information, to make it an easy task to assemble the information.

Member's List: This volunteer will maintain the e-mail, mail, and/or phone list.  He or she will coordinate with other volunteers who receive contact information and seeking to talk to the Newly Diagnosed coordinator.

Vendor Coordinator:  This volunteer will organize vendors to come to the meetings.  He or she will coordinate with the Meetings Chair to confirm dates, times, and spaces for the vendors.

Sample Coordinator:  This volunteer will contact companies specializing in gluten free foods and request samples for meetings.  He or she will coordinate with the Meetings Chair to confirm dates, obtain the samples, prepare them if necessary, and set them up at the meeting.

Please let us know how you can help!  You can reach Michelle at (717) 684-3269 or George and Becky Maag at lancasterareaceliacs@yahoo.com
